Sam here. Welcome to this corner of my website - the dreaded
"About Me" Page. There's a mountain of rejected drafts of this page
somewhere in cyberspace. It's ironic - I find it easy to pen an entire new
world, but faced with an about me page, I'm reduced to a blubbering mess of
"who am I?"
Luckily for me, I have some fantastic
friends who came up with the great idea of "10 Questions With
Sam", which was mildly easier.
1. What is your favourite colour?
Really? You're starting with this? Fine - according to my
wardrobe, I'd have to say blue, because more than half of my clothes are blue.
Otherwise, I would have to say warm gray. Yes, that's a real colour. Because I
said so.
2. Why did you start writing?
Okay, that's more like it. I guess reading was what started it.
I'd read a book, and become completely immersed in that world - to the point
that I was disappointed when I reached the last page and had to return to real
life. I started writing so that I could have, like a double immersion in the
story - when I wrote Project G.A.I.A. for example, I couldn't bear to stop
writing because I enjoyed imagining myself into my story.
3. What is the last thing your bought?
I bought a cookbook - something I never actually thought I would
own, because I'm more of an improviser when it comes to meals, but after the
last disaster, I've come to my senses. There's a recipe for a reason.
4. Do you have any writing credentials?
I once wrote a short horror story and it was published in an anthology along with loads of other kids who did the same. I got a certificate for that - but that was when I was 11. Does it still count?
5. Why did you decide to create this website?
It's a great way to get all those random, authorly thoughts out of my head and onto paper - or webpage, in this case.
It's also so I could tell people my story - how I came to write my
books. The who, what, when, where and why, because those are all the things I
want to know from my favourite authors.
Among other things, I'll also be uploading character backstories, information about their superpowers, and (my personal favourite) book playlists! (Because it's virtually impossible to write without a good soundtrack).

Last but not least, it's a great way of connecting with my
readers, the people who make writing a book worthwhile. They can contact me
with questions, and I'll do my utmost to answer them all.
6. In a zombie apocalypse, you would...
Be acting out all the zom-pocalypse movies I've ever seen,
attempting to rescue people and save the world.
7. Name someone who has had a huge impact on your life.
Stan Lee (and all the other comic-book dudes) for bringing
superheroes into my life. Thanks a bunch guys!
8. Tea or Coffee?
Ew, neither! The only hot drink I can stomach is warm milk (with
cookies, of course). Hot drinks = yuck.
9. If you could bring any fictional character to life, who would you pick and why?
That is a really good question! Um...oh I don't know, there's too
many! Okay, maybe Samwise Gamgee, from LOTR, because I think he's really the
hero (I maintain that Frodo would have died without him). I think Sam would
make a great best friend.
10. What mantra do you live by? Elaborate.
My mantra is without a doubt "If you managed to do it, you
can undo it." This came from various occasions where I got stuck (i.e.
under the bed, got a ring stuck on my finger in a shop) and started panicking.
Eventually (at the ripe old age of 18) I realized that if I can get a ring on
my finger, it's possible to get it off. Anyway, this mantra works for life too
- if you get yourself into a mess, you can get yourself out of it too. It's
served me well.
